Well I needed to replace the tires that came stock on my Prius. They didn't last all that long but were pretty good for fuel economy. I regularly got 56 or so MPG on a regular basis out of them by practicing some smart driving habits. The Prius is rated by the factory for 45/40 city/highway mileage. I generally do more of a combination type driving with little actual city or highway driving!
Well last fall when I put on my snow tires and watched as my beloved MPG shrunk for the winter cold and poor economy performance of my snow tires dropping my economy to really working for 50 MPG and lower if it was really cold. Now that spring has sprung and warmer weather started assending upon us I had to do some real research into some new summer tires. Of course low rolling resistance tires were a must but I didn't want to break the bank to get them! I looked at a few reviews and opinions on the internet but found good and bad about all of the tires out there. I love reading reviews from people that don't live the hypermiling lifestyle. I also have a very hard time with the splitting of hairs and the bias that seems to be put on tires that are being reviewed by someone that is selling say 2 or so brands but not Coopers! I found this to be problematic when trying to find information about the Cooper GFE.

OK Gail and I have had the Subaru Outback we purchased from Subaru of Keene for about 3 months now. We have not had any snow to try it out in but I am definitely not complaining about that we can wait for next winter and be happy doing it! So far Subaru of Keene has been 100% true to any promise made to us. Gail took the car down to them for the first oil change and to have options that we purchased installed. They happily gave Gail an overnght loaner when we spoke to Curt Finnamore our salesman he took excellent care of us! We would definitely recommend that you talk to Curt at 603-355-5000 ext 114 if you are looking for a great deal on a great car, he is top shelf.
Now down to the brass tacks.

OK so I put in a pellet stove fireplace insert 4 years ago. I use about 4-5 tons of fuel per year. I don't use fuel oil for anything except my hot water. I hope to remedy this situation eventually. The heat from a pellet stove is more like heat from a gas heater than from a wood stove. Mine gives a very nice viewing window to see the flame.

After reading more reviews about the 2010 Surbaru Outback 2.5i Limited than I care to think about I decided that I would write my own. I read everything from this is the best thing ever to this is the worst thing ever. I find it funny that there seems to be little middle ground on this type of thing. If the review is bad the comment are even worse. If the review is great so are the comments for the most part.
Gail and I have been in the market for a new car for several months. We have looked at several very nice cars including the Volvo's the Toyota Venza and the Subaru Outback. I read the entire MotorTrend article several times and watched the video as well, I have to admit that they did seem unbiased and true to making a decision based on criteria they set out.

Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs |

I have installed these throughout my house. I like the light that they give off and they do seem to last a long time. The 40 watt equivalents that I use are about 12 watts per bulb and use less than 33% of the energy that the regular bulbs they are made to replace. The nice thing about them is that they last much longer than a regular light bulb. I do have to replace them but if you simply call the number that are on my bulbs(purchased at Home Depot) they will send you a replacement.
I use these bulbs in all locations except my garage door opener where they won't work. This is typical and is because of the timer that is built into the door. I tried some of the first runs of these bulbs years ago and they didn't work well for my outside lights in the winter time but the newer ones work great all year round. All of my ceiling fan lights have been replaced with them and they seem to work great but they do seem to fail more quickly than when they are installed in a regular light. I do think they last longer than incandesent lights though. Then energy savings is worth the expense.
Conclusion:
I like the compact fluoresent bulbs and would not go back to regular light bulbs. They save enery, work as well as regular bulbs and can be used in most applications that require regular bulbs. It is easy to switch over and is a very good way to save money and help us use less fosile fuel. This is such an easy savings it doesn't make sense to just do it. To read more about the energy savings go to the energy star site and read about them! |
