Well I needed to replace the tires that came stock on my Prius. They didn't last all that long but were pretty good for fuel economy. I regularly got 56 or so MPG on a regular basis out of them by practicing some smart driving habits. The Prius is rated by the factory for 45/40 city/highway mileage. I generally do more of a combination type driving with little actual city or highway driving!

Well last fall when I put on my snow tires and watched as my beloved MPG shrunk for the winter cold and poor economy performance of my snow tires dropping my economy to really working for 50 MPG and lower if it was really cold. Now that spring has sprung and warmer weather started assending upon us I had to do some real research into some new summer tires. Of course low rolling resistance tires were a must but I didn't want to break the bank to get them! I looked at a few reviews and opinions on the internet but found good and bad about all of the tires out there. I love reading reviews from people that don't live the hypermiling lifestyle. I also have a very hard time with the splitting of hairs and the bias that seems to be put on tires that are being reviewed by someone that is selling say 2 or so brands but not Coopers! I found this to be problematic when trying to find information about the Cooper GFE.

So I decided to try a set and see what was what. I have a local tire dealer here in Claremont NH called Asetex Tire and Auto that have done work for me in the past and I have purchased tires from them before. I called up and told them what I wanted and they gave me several choices and I asked them about the Cooper GFE, they looked them up for me and I liked the price. They were slightly less expensive than any of the other tires in the group so that was a plus. They mounted them and away I drove.

Of course fuel economy came back right away after moving from the winters to the new Cooper GFEs but I didn't realize how well they GFE's would do until I had driven on them for a few weeks. As the weather warmed up and the winter fuel got out of the system my mileage came back up. I am now seeing high 50's and even see an occasional 60! Now this isn't flash in the pan readings they are over at least a tank of gas.  The tires seem to ride well considering I have them blown up to thier max pressure. They feel confident on the road to me. I am not used to driving in a sports car as some writers are that write for major magazines, I am just a normal working class kind of guy. The tires brake, drive and seem just fine to me. I also had to purchase these tires myself I didn't have a magazine or a manufacturer supplying them. I will update this post after more time with these tires but early indications are quite good for them. If you are worried about these tires don't be they are made in the USA too! Maybe help someone in Ohio keep there job! But who am I to talk I drive a Prius that is made in Japan!
